Solange’s Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOLANGE!

Via Spin.com: Solange appears on the new album. How did that come together?
When I wrote a new song called “Sex Karma,” I thought it would be cool if it appeared on her record. I sent it to her and for a while that was the plan. But I really liked it and changed my mind, and we decided to record it as a duet. Which works because the lyric “You look like a playground to me, player,” is funny for a guy to sing. I didn’t know if I could pull that off.

Words cannot explain how excited I am for some new Solange. Solange writes: MY CALIFORNIA MISSION FIRST STARTED FROM DECIDING TO RECORD MY ALBUM IN SANTA BARBARA. (OF COURSE NAMES AFTER THE HISTORY OF THE ”MISSIONS” STARTED THERE) BUT AFTER WEEKS OF COMPLETE ISOLATION AND LOTS OF FREAKY SOUNDS AT NIGHT ON A 5 ACRE ”PARADISE”, I DECIDED TO PACK UP AND FINISH MY ALBUM IN A FEW DIFFERENT PLACES IN CALIFORNIA. THESE ARE PICS TAKEN FROM THE HOUSE IM COMPLETING THE ALBUM IN. ME AND DEV ARE PRETTY MUCH FINISHING THE TOUCHES ON THE WRITING SIDE AND IM RECORDING THE FINAL VOCALS. THIS HOUSE IS AMAZING, COMPLETELY INSPIRING AND LITERALLY ON TOP OF THE WORD (OR AT LEAST LOS ANGELES). AFTER FINALLY FIGURING OUT HOW TO COMPLETELY CAPTURE MY SOUND, ( THIS ACTUALLY TOOK ME FIGURING OUT I SOUND BETTER ON A 250 BUCK LIVE MIC AND DITCHING THE $7000 “TOP OF THE LINE” SHIT) I AM ON A ROLL AND LOOKING FORWARD TO FINISHING UP SOON.

Via Pastemagazine.com: With help from Solange Knowles, that is. “It’s a really good two-stepping song, not too dancey,” Macklovitch explains. “It’s sort of a cute, romantic number and obviously, the chorus is a call-and-response between me and her. She sounds like Chaka Khan on there; it’s really cool.”

Rimmel London is expanding its roster of celebrity endorsers, adding Beyonce’s sister, Solange Knowles, Zooey Deschanel and model Alejandra Ramos Munoz to the list of gorgeous stars that support the cosmetics line. These beauties join Kate Moss, Georgia May Jagger and Coco Rocha as brand spokeswomen.

According to WWD, the company is thrilled to welcome the new faces, and Bernd Beetz, Coty Inc’s chief executive officer gloated, “Zooey, Solange and Alejandra each bring a distinct look and personality to Rimmel London, expanding the brand’s visibility and strengthening Coty’s global color platform.”

The ladies are hard at work, each dedicated to their own personal projects in addition to their new roles at Rimmel. Solange is busy working as a singer-songwriter, DJ, actress and producer. Zooey, who is known for her role in “500 Days of Summer,” and is also a musician, will release her second album this spring with her band, She & Him. Alejandra is busy modeling while also juggling her new position fronting Rimmel.

The three very distinctly beautiful women have been brought on to represent different areas of Rimmel, and will each star in their own TV and print ads, aimed to improve the global appeal of the brand. We can’t wait to see how gorgeous they look!

Via Wall Street Journal:

Vibed to a 70s-era soundtrack of Led Zeppelin, Heart, The Eagles and Carly Simon, the Charlotte Ronson show Friday night exuded a luxe-hippie, boho-chic style. Admiring Ronson’s belted wrap-jackets worn with floor-length, pleated organza skirts and palazzo pants — accessorized with slouchy headwraps, center-parted hair and minimalist makeup — was singer (and Beyoncé sister) Solange Knowles, looking fly in the front row in a Ronson minidress and newsboy cap.

Knowles’ 60s Motown girl group/70s pop-art aesthetic (most obviously displayed in her 2008 self-directed video for “Sandcastle Disco”) resonates with Ronson’s throwback-with-a-twist sensibility.

Knowles said she finds inspiration for her music and videos in fashion: “My photo shoots, album packaging and video shoots are very inspired by 60s and 70s fashion. My mother [Tina Knowles] always had great coffee table books. I looked specifically at The Supremes, Earth, Wind & Fire and Isley Brothers for fashion and it’s very apparent, I think.”

Knowles will be flying out this week to London. Her new venture there is top-secret “but when it hits, I’m going to be so excited… it’s as a spokesmodel.”

Any plans for a new album this year? “Yes, I’m actually about to lock myself in a tree house in Costa Rica and finish my record. I’m writing and setting up a whole studio there. Hopefully it will be out this fall,” she said. Knowles added that she’s been playing around with titles. “I haven’t settled on one, but I have the idea of ‘Sex, Drugs and Censorship,’” she said. “We’ll see!”

I really hope the album comes out this year! We miss you Solo!

Wait, could it be? A witty reference to his rumored industry crush? The blogs have been buzzing about a relationship between him and Solange for months and the infamous Central Park picnic pics. Their flirty (and very public) tweets don’t do much to hinder the gossip, either. Back in the telly, we get a glimpse of another side of Wale. (Truth serum comes in many forms and flavors.)

“I do love her,” he admits of Solange, flashing a Cheshire. “We’re friends. She’s amazing. She’s a good person. Any single mother contributing to society the way she does — I got a lot of love for them. She’s got to do a lot on her own and raise a young black man in this day and age, so my hat goes off to her. She’s definitely an anomaly. And the way she can do that and manage to do the same things that I complain about having to do.”

His affection is as obvious as a set of flushed cheeks. And impossibly adorable. Wale, the former mixtape rapper from inner city DC, is borderline giddy. “Did you interview Solange about me?” Wale asks. He’s sprawled across his bed; head practically buried in the pillow. “Did she smile when you mentioned my name?”

Wale is dead ass. But not in a corny, love sick pit-bull way. His honesty is endearing. Wale insists that he and Solange are just friends but it didn’t take a crowbar to pry his desires out of him. He stops singing MGMT’s “Electric Feel” long enough to address his future.

BV Buzz can officially report that Solange Knowles is no longer signed to Interscope/Geffen Records.

Via Solange’s Twitter:

Although it’s been a wonderful journey & experience at Interscope Records, after truly recognizing what’s important to ME as an artist I decided it was time for me to continue my path on a more independent platform. I thank Ron and Jimmy for believing in me as an artist and supporting my journey…and have nothing but respect for the Interscope family.

Whether she was dropped or left doesn’t really matter. Interscope was not the right place for her. Her music is more independent than mainstream. I just hope wherever she goes, she gets TV promo for her next album. We need our Solange on TV fix!
