Solange appears on the new album. How did that come together?
When I wrote a new song called “Sex Karma,” I thought it would be cool if it appeared on her record. I sent it to her and for a while that was the plan. But I really liked it and changed my mind, and we decided to record it as a duet. Which works because the lyric “You look like a playground to me, player,” is funny for a guy to sing. I didn’t know if I could pull that off.

Pastemagazine.com: With help from Solange Knowles, that is. “It’s a really good two-stepping song, not too dancey,” Macklovitch explains. “It’s sort of a cute, romantic number and obviously, the chorus is a call-and-response between me and her. She sounds like Chaka Khan on there; it’s really cool.”

Via Wall Street Journal:
Vibed to a 70s-era soundtrack of Led Zeppelin, Heart, The Eagles and Carly Simon, the Charlotte Ronson show Friday night exuded a luxe-hippie, boho-chic style. Admiring Ronson’s belted wrap-jackets worn with floor-length, pleated organza skirts and palazzo pants — accessorized with slouchy headwraps, center-parted hair and minimalist makeup — was singer (and Beyoncé sister) Solange Knowles, looking fly in the front row in a Ronson minidress and newsboy cap.
Knowles’ 60s Motown girl group/70s pop-art aesthetic (most obviously displayed in her 2008 self-directed video for “Sandcastle Disco”) resonates with Ronson’s throwback-with-a-twist sensibility.
Knowles said she finds inspiration for her music and videos in fashion: “My photo shoots, album packaging and video shoots are very inspired by 60s and 70s fashion. My mother [Tina Knowles] always had great coffee table books. I looked specifically at The Supremes, Earth, Wind & Fire and Isley Brothers for fashion and it’s very apparent, I think.”
Knowles will be flying out this week to London. Her new venture there is top-secret “but when it hits, I’m going to be so excited… it’s as a spokesmodel.”
Any plans for a new album this year? “Yes, I’m actually about to lock myself in a tree house in Costa Rica and finish my record. I’m writing and setting up a whole studio there. Hopefully it will be out this fall,” she said. Knowles added that she’s been playing around with titles. “I haven’t settled on one, but I have the idea of ‘Sex, Drugs and Censorship,’” she said. “We’ll see!”
I really hope the album comes out this year! We miss you Solo!

BV Buzz can officially report that Solange Knowles is no longer signed to Interscope/Geffen Records.
Via Solange’s Twitter:
Although it’s been a wonderful journey & experience at Interscope Records, after truly recognizing what’s important to ME as an artist I decided it was time for me to continue my path on a more independent platform. I thank Ron and Jimmy for believing in me as an artist and supporting my journey…and have nothing but respect for the Interscope family.
Whether she was dropped or left doesn’t really matter. Interscope was not the right place for her. Her music is more independent than mainstream. I just hope wherever she goes, she gets TV promo for her next album. We need our Solange on TV fix!
